HISTORY OF MAISWIM
HOW MAISWIM BEGAN
Maiswim was founded in 2023 by Sara Salvador and Tânia Santos Silva following a simple realization: most menstrual solutions were still being treated as an exception — functional, but poorly integrated into contemporary clothing. From the outset, the goal was clear: to create pieces that incorporate menstrual technology without compromising design, comfort, or aesthetics. Clothing that works and naturally takes its place in the wardrobe.
The first step was swimwear - a space where the need for well-resolved solutions was evident and where the potential for integrating function and design was undeniable.
THE BEGINNING
Maiswim was born at the intersection of fashion, functionality, and real-life experience. Not as a response to an isolated problem, but as a structured approach to how menstrual apparel could and should exist.
From the beginning, menstrual technology was designed to be integrated and invisible. A solid, discreet, and reliable technical foundation, developed to follow the body without altering the language of the garment. The focus was never on creating “special” products, but rather on creating good pieces with enhanced performance.
The evolution was natural.
OUR JOURNEY SO FAR
From swimwear, Maiswim expanded into menstrual underwear and later into garments designed for sport. This included underwear suitable for physical activity and, subsequently, sportswear with integrated menstrual technology.
Each new step responded to real contexts of use, always maintaining the same logic: design comes first, functionality happens invisibly, and aesthetics remain refined.
Throughout this journey, the brand grew through physical presence, collaborations, and use in real environments, including highly demanding contexts.
MAISWIM TODAY
Today, Maiswim is a menstrual apparel brand that moves across categories without being defined by any single one. Swimwear, underwear, and activewear coexist within a shared language — coherent,
restrained, and functional. All pieces integrate menstrual technology designed to provide absorption, comfort, and reliabilit throughout the day, without interfering with design or the wearing experience.
Environmental responsibility is treated with the same rigor applied to design. Maiswim works with the lowest possible environmental footprint, usin almost exclusively fabrics from renewable sources — many of them organic — and recycled materials, selected for their quality, durability, and technical suitability. The brand maintains a close connection to real-life use contexts, including an active partnership wit SC Braga Women’s Football Team.
The essential, done well.
SC BRAGA WOMENS FOOTBALL SPONSOR
Maiswim is the official sponsor of Sporting Clube de Braga – Women’s Football. This partnership was born from a conscious choice: to support a team that views women’s football with the same importance, structure and ambition as men’s football.
As a brand focused on women’s health and well-being, we were looking for a club that was truly aligned with our values. SC Braga stood out for the consistent way it invests in women’s football, notably with the creation of Estádio Amélia Morais, the first stadium in Portugal dedicated exclusively to a women’s team. This sponsorship represents Maiswim’s commitment to supporting projects that create real impact and contribute to the development of women’s sport.
Alongside this support, and through direct contact with the athletes, Maiswim decided to go further:
To develop the first menstrual underwear designed entirely for sports practice.
Created in collaboration with SBraga’s women’s team, this underwear was designed to meet the demands of high-performance football — comfort, security, freedom of movement, and confidence during the menstrual period. This development reinforces a core principle of the brand: menstrual health should not be an obstacle to performance, but rather an integrated and normalized part of sporting life.
